This is your Friday update, which takes a quick look at the week ahead and some developments that El Paso Matters is following.

High School Graduations: The high school graduation season is upon us and the first traditional public high school to have its ceremony will be Canutillo High School, which is set for 2 p.m. May 31 at the Don Haskins Center. The Ysleta Independent School District graduations begin on June 5; while the Socorro and El Paso ISD ceremonies begin on June 9. Here is the Socorro Independent School District graduation schedule. The Clint Independent School District graduation schedule is here. The San Elizario High School graduation will be at 7 p.m., June 2 at the San Elizario High School Stadium. Tornillo High School will have its graduation at 5:30 p.m. June 9 at the school, 430-D Oil Mill Road. Fabens High School will have its graduation at 7:30 p.m. June 2 at its football field, 601 NE G Ave. Anthony High School will have its graduation at 6 p.m., June 1 at Magoffin Auditorium at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Electric Co. Smart Meters: El Paso Electric began installing smart meters throughout El Paso this week. The smart meters will allow customers to access information about their use on a day-to-day basis. The installation schedule is available on the company’s smart meter website. Installations should take 15 minutes or less and customers do not have to be home; however, power will be shut off during the installations. Customers will be notified 60 days prior to their scheduled installation. The entire meter installation process is expected to be completed in 2025. El Paso Electric reminds customers that they will not be asked for a payment, personal information or account information during the installation.

New SISD Trustees Seated: Two newly elected Socorro Independent School District trustees and one incumbent were sworn into office on Monday. The two new trustees seated were Alice Gardea and Marivel Macias. They were joined by Michael Najera, who was the lone incumbent reelected. Najera is the new SISD board president.
